ENSEMBLE MISE-EN

Examining unusual corners of the composition world" (New York Times), ensemble mise-en "offers something fresh for your ears" (Time Out New York) with a repertoire that is simultaneously multicultural, intellectually challenging, and aesthetically pleasing.

Though a wide array of projects -- including concert series, tours, and workshops -- mise-en engages artists and audiences in a vast and growing body of contemporary music. The ensemble also hosts an annual music festival -- mise-en music festival -- which has gained international recognition, drawing from more than 3,400 works submitted by composers since 2014.

Since its founding in 2011, mise-en has presented a total of 350 pieces, including 150 works written for the group and 64 U.S. premieres. The ensemble has also performed at exciting venues such as (le) poisson rouge, Bohemian National Hall, Italian Academy, the DiMenna Center, Tenri Cultural Institute, and the cell, and premiered works by Jarrell, Abrahamsen, Hosokawa, Mitterer, Pagh-Paan, and Saariaho, among others. Recent tours have taken the ensemble to parts of the American Midwest and New England, as well as to European nations such as Sweden, Lithuania, and Latvia.

CHARTREUSE ENSEMBLE

Chartreuse is violinist Myra Hinrichs (Chicago), violist Carrie Frey (New York City), and cellist Helen Newby (San Francisco). As a tricoastal trio, their goal is to take advantage of the distance by working with as many amazing people in their cities of residence as possible and commissioning new works from composers across the U.S. and in Norway. The trio's most recent tour took them to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, for performances of music by Bethany Younge, Kaija Saariaho, Peter Swendsen, Gregory Uhlmann, Andrew Rowan, Carolyn O'Brien, Kurt Isaacson, Matthew Chamberlain, Aaron Holloway-Nahum, and Scott Rubin. The trio's summer plans include an installation piece with Marek Poliks involving everything from cranes and pulleys to plastic sheets, lighting and deep sub bass, to be developed in residency at Avaloch Farm; and premieres of new works by Aaron Holloway-Nahum, Tyler Futrell, and Matthew Ricketts.
